Tank Level Sensors
Any sensor will work well in a waste tankfor a while. Have you ever had a
float sensor foul in your waste tank? How did you fix it? Did you remove the sensor and clean
it just to have it foul again a few months later?
Why not just install a better sensor in the first place? All of the level sensors we
manufacture are immune to fouling because none have any moving parts. In fact, our non-contact
sensors below installs on the outside of the tank wall and never even comes into
contact with the tank contents at all. A quick summary of key advantages of our sensor
technology can be read here:

Non-Contact Level Sensors
There are many good sensors for monitoring the level of fluid in a tank, but nearly all
install inside of the tank. How about a sensor that mounts on the outside of
the tank? One which never fouls, never leaks, and never needs to be removed for
cleaning?
Our Non-Contact sensor consists of a pair of sensor foils which are adhered to the outside
wall of a HDPE plastic or fiberglass tank. To these foils a sensor module is attached which
reads through the tank wall via the foil strips and outputs a voltage proprotional
to the fluid level in the tank.
These sensors are great for monitoring both fresh and waste water tanks. Since they install
on the outside of the tank, they install in a matter of minutes, require no special
installation tools, and there is no risk of tank leaks as a result of sensor installation.
Basic Features:
- Suitable for fresh water or waste water tanks.
- Reads fluid level through a HDPE plastic or fiberglass tank wall.
- Outputs an analog voltage in the 0VDC to 5VDC range (exact
output voltage range depends on tank height, wall thickness, etc...).
- Installs easily without any special tools.
- Power-on light for troubleshooting.
- No chance of tank leaks due to sensor installation.
- No sensor contact with tank contents.
- No moving parts to foul.
- No mucking around in a waste tank to clean a fouled sensor.

New Needle Gauge Compatible Non-Contact Level Sensors
This is a completely new sensor type that we have had in the works for awhile now.
We get asked for this type of sensor from time to time: a non-contact sensors that will drive a customers existing
needle gauges, which gives the advantage of our solid state sensor without the modification of existing boat gauges.
This sensor instals just like our original non-contact sensor with the external foil arrangement (see picture above),
but the sensor itself is push button calibratable instead of the display.
These sensors are available with 3 output options: a 33-240 Ohm and 0-90 Ohm needle gauge driving
options and a 0-5VDC output version (potentially useful for attaching to a NMEA2000 interface
module).
This module is also being offered to adapt the analog output voltage of our PVC rod sensors
to 33-240 Ohm and 0-90 Ohm needle gauge driving options and a calibrated 0-5VDC output version.
Basic Features:
- 33-240 Ohm and 0-90 Ohm needle gauge driver or 0-5VDC output options.
- Push button EMPTY and FULL calibration on the sensor.
- Suitable for fresh water or waste water tanks.
- Reads fluid level through a HDPE plastic or fiberglass tank wall.
- Installs easily without any special tools.
- Power-on light for troubleshooting.
- No chance of tank leaks due to sensor installation.
- No sensor contact with tank contents.
- No moving parts to foul.
- No mucking around in a waste tank to clean a fouled sensor.
- Also available without the internal sensor but designed to attach to our
Standard
or Extended length PVC sensor rods (see below) thereby providing them with
regulated power for sensor accuracy and with the new output options thereby
adapting them to the listed needle gauges or a calibrated 0-5VDC output for
attachment to a NMEA2000 interface module.

Foil Repair Kit For Non-Contact Level Sensors
Our non-contact fluid level sensor above is easy to install, but occasionally one of the
sensor foils might be damaged during installation or one of the sensor wires might be pulled
off some time later.
To make sensor repair easy, we have put together a repair kit containing the materials for
a quick fix.
This Kit Contains:
- 2 2" self-adhesive copper sensor patches with 4.5" of lead wire attached.
- 5' of aluminum sensor tape.
- 2 butt-connectors.

Note: The non-contact sensors above are not appropriate for metal-walled tanks nor for
monitoring fuel levels.
If your tank has metal walls, or you do not have easy access to a tank side wall to mount a
non-contact sensor, then one of our in-tank, rod-style sensors listed below may be an
appropriate sensor option for you to consider.
While these level sensors are mounted inside of the tank, they still offer a key advantage
of our non-contact sensors: they are completely solid state and have no moving parts to foul
due to contact with tank contents.
Standard Length Rod Sensors
Our standard length rod-style sensor is excellent for monitoring fresh or waste water tanks
whose depths do not exceed 36".
This sensor installs through a 1" NPT threaded hole through the top of the tank and is
intended for monitoring fluid levels in metal-walled tanks. Additionally, since it has no
moving parts to foul, it is also a superior alternative to traditional float sensors to monitor
levels in your waste tanks.

If your tank already has a SAE-5 hole sensor pattern, consider using our
SAE-5 to 1" NPT adapter
described below to simplify sensor rod installation.

For customers without access to the top of their tank we also build this sensor with a 90°
bend (sensor head pictured at right) to mount through a hole in the side wall of your tank.
This sensor variant is built with one of our
SAE-5 to 1" NPT adapters
attached and
requires the SAE-5 hole sensor mounting pattern be present on your tank.
For customers who want to drive an existing needle gauge with this sensor we now offer an
adapter module
to convert the standard output of these PVC sensors to a 33-240ohm or 0-90ohm needle gauge
compatible output or a 0-5VDC calibrated output for adaption to a NMEA2000 interface
module.
Basic Features:
- Monitors fresh water or waste tanks.
- Sensor lengths from 6" to 30" (if you require a longer sensor see the extended length model below).
- Outputs an analog voltage in the 0VDC to 5VDC range (exact output values depends on rod length.).
- Installs in a 1" NPT threaded hole in the top of the tank.
- SAE-5 to 1" NPT adapter available for mounting this sensor in tanks which
already have an SAE-5 lug opening (see below).
- Sensor also available with a 90° bend for mounting through a tank side wall.
- Power-on light for troubleshooting.
- No moving parts to foul.

Extended Length Rod Sensors
For tank depths greater than 30", we have developed an extended length rod sensor which looks
nearly identical to our standard length rod sensors above. The only external difference
between the standard and extended length sensor types is the addition of a small adjustment
screw (pictured at right) used for factory calibration.
Like our standard length model, this sensor also installs through a 1" NPT threaded hole
through the top of the tank and is intended for monitoring fluid levels in metal-walled water
or waste tanks.

If your tank already has a SAE-5 hole sensor pattern, consider using our
SAE-5 to 1" NPT adapter
described below to simplify sensor rod installation.

For customers without access to the top of their tank we also build this sensor with a 90°

Basic Features:
- Monitors fresh water or waste tanks.
- Sensor lengths from 31" to 48" (lengths in excess of 48" are possible, contact Sales for details).
- Outputs an analog voltage in the 0VDC to 3.5VDC range (full value is factory calibrated.).
- Installs in a 1" NPT threaded hole in the top of the tank.
- SAE-5 to 1" NPT adapter available for mounting this sensor in tanks which already have an SAE-5 lug opening (see below).
- Sensor also available with a 90° bend for mounting through a tank side wall.
- Power-on light for troubleshooting.
- No moving parts to foul.

SAE-5 to 1" NPT Sensor Adapter
Many marine tanks already have an opening for the installation of a standard float sensor.
This opening has a center hole for the sensor and it is circled by 5 smaller threaded holes
for mounting the sensor. This pattern is refered to as the American SAE-5 hole pattern.
Since the SAE-5 hole pattern is common to so many marine tanks, we offer this adapter to
simplify the installation of our rod-style level sensors. If you are replacing a standard
float sensor with a rod-style sensor, just thread this adapter onto the rod and install the
new sensor in place of the old one using the original gasket and screws.
If your tank already has the SAE-5 hole pattern, this adapter will significantly simplify the
installation of our sensor rods. By using the adapter you need only a screwdriver and wrench
to install a sensor rod; no new hole for the sensor is required.
Basic Features:
- Standard SAE-5 lug sensor pattern common to many marine tanks.
- 1" NPT center hole to mount the sensor.
- Adapter constructed out of 1/4" thick HDPE material.
- Compatible with both sensor rods above.

Fuel Level Measurement
Note: while we do not currently manufacture sensors for monitoring fuel levels,
all of our Profile Series monitoring and display panels are compatible with most
industry standard fuel level senders (i.e. 33-240 Ohm float senders).
If your fuel tank already has a sender installed, odds are our displays are already
compatible with it, refer to the owners manuals for our Profile Series display panels on
our Display Panels page for fuel sender installation instructions.
